Here at UHB, we have a dedicated innovation and engagement team who focus on fostering creativity, driving new ideas, and enhancing collaboration amongst doctors. The innovation team are keen to connect with our doctors as best possible by various mean such as social media, communication platforms, and the UHB doctors’ bulletin.
Some of the projects that the team are working on are:
Resident Doctors Bulletin
The Resident Doctors Bulletin is collated and distributed by the Chief Registrars via email on a monthly basis. It contains important updates for doctors and upcoming educational opportunities.
Grand Round and Hot Cases
The ‘Grand Round’ is an education session that is aimed at medical staff across the Trust but is open to all with a clinical interest in the topic being presented. It is an hour-long session with regular presentations from both UHB clinicians and occasionally guest speakers covering topics such as case studies, research, improvement projects, and clinical service development. Upcoming Grand Rounds are advertised twice per week via email from
Postgraduate Medical Education (PME) Dashboard on Moodle
The PME Dashboard on Moodle is an information page that has been designed by Doctors with Doctors in mind. It contains useful information such as induction schedules and documents, how to apply for study leave, teaching schedules and links to previous teaching sessions.
Social Media Accounts
The Innovation and Engagement team manage various social media accounts for the Medical Academy to share our vision and innovations, advertise events, workstreams and highlight the work that the Medical Education team do. The accounts are used to engage with partnership organisations, such as NHSE.

Postgraduate Medical Education Showcase Events
We are delighted to offer all doctors the opportunity to attend Postgraduate Showcase Events. These are held across all sites at the beginning of the Academic Year.
These events allow all grades of Doctor, new and existing, to meet the Postgraduate Team face to face and those departments that work closely with the Postgraduate Team such as Medical Resources, Medical Workforce, Payroll, Wellbeing, Freedom to Speak up and Guardian of Safe Working. Doctors have the opportunity to raise any questions or issues that they may have. Free lunch and refreshments are provided as well!
Career Events
We organise career events which take place in October and March, alternating between Heartlands and QE Hospital. These events provide an opportunity for doctors to engage with college tutors and meet with trainees to share recruitment hints and tips. Colleagues from various specialities are present to answer any questions and offer guidance on exploring potential career paths.
Resident Doctors Forums
Each directorate/department holds a forum (forum can also be trust/site wide, such as grade specific RDF’s).The forums represent a safe space for colleagues to address concerns related to working conditions, education, and training. The meetings give trainees the opportunity to share good practice and highlight areas that are working well. Representatives are present at meetings and work with the chair to address any concerns raised
Resident Doctors’ Christmas Lunch
Each year, Christmas lunch time events are held for the Doctors. Lunch and refreshments are provided, and the event is well attended by doctors from all grades and consultants. It allows doctors to socialise and network with colleagues.
Christmas Hampers for Resident Doctors
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, hampers are delivered to each of the mess rooms across all four sites. The hampers are filled with a variety of treats to support the doctors at UHB over the Christmas period.
Resident Doctors Advent Calendar
Each year consultants, tutors, and patients come together to create an advent calendar to celebrate the outstanding work that resident doctors contribute to UHB. The calendar is filled with ‘thank you’ messages which resident doctors can enjoy throughout the month of December.
