Menopause
Help and support is available to staff at University Hospital Birmingham as they approach and experience the menopause.
Menopause is a natural transition that women experience, however the times and symptoms are different for everyone. Some get mild symptoms, while for others they can be severe and have a negative impact on their lives. It is not only those who identify as a woman who will experience menopause. Some transgender men, non-binary people and intersex people may also experience menopause.
UHB’s menopause passport
Our menopause passport has been designed by UHB’s Wendy Madden, to help staff to feel supported and comfortable at work while they approach and go through the menopause.
The passport should be completed by you first, and then arrange a meeting with your manager. Your manager can help ensure that the correct support and adjustments are in place. The passport should be signed by you and your manager to acknowledge you agree to the document.
The menopause passport follows you if you change roles in the Trust and it stays valid if your current manager changes.
M Club
Our M Club is monthly peer to peer support groups. Friendly and informal, the M Club are a great opportunity to meet other staff at UHB who are affected by the menopause.
Women’s Network
UHB’s own women’s network is a great place to network with other women who work at UHB. Meetings are held monthly, on Zoom and you can stay the full hour or just pop in. Email the Women's Network for more information.
Information sessions
The Women’s Network regularly sets up information sessions for people affected by the menopause. To keep updated, you can be added to the distribution by emailing the Women's Network.
Menopause champions
There are around 60 menopause champions in the Trust, who are members of staff who offer other women a listening ear, and practical help and support. Contact with a menopause champion is confidential.
