Teaching

The Locally Employed Doctor (LED) Education training Programme at University Hospitals Birmingham offers a comprehensive career guidance and professional help designed to equip aspiring medical professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary for success. At the core of this Programme is the delivery of teaching and educational activities, which covers essential topics spanning across all the specialties in medical field. Our teaching sessions for our Tier one level doctors is designed by our Clinical Teaching Fellows based on the Royal College curriculum covering both medicine and surgery. These teaching sessions are delivered by specialty consultants and experts, ensuring that participants receive expert guidance and insights from leaders in their respective fields. Additionally, the Programme includes junior doctor forums, this is a platform to discuss concerns and share experiences, fostering a supportive community of medical professionals dedicated to continuous learning and growth. You can access the 2-year teaching Programme within the PME Moodle dashboard. Whether you're starting your medical journey or seeking to enhance your skills, our LED Programme provides a supportive platform for your continued advancement in the medical profession.

E-Portfolio

The bespoke University Hospitals Birmingham generic ePortfolio offers a tailored solution for medical professionals, providing a platform to manage and capture all their educational experiences and evidence. This would be a valuable resource for someone who is new to NHS or Doctors who have not made up their specialty Career of choice. Within this ePortfolio, users can access a range of forms designed to streamline the recording of various educational activities, assessments, and achievements. One of its key features is the ability to group all educational experiences and evidence, allowing users to easily track their progress and competencies across different rotations and specialties. You can download all your educational achievements and upload them across to the other ePortfolio, one you have chosen the specialty of choice of your career. Moreover, supervisors have access to the ePortfolio, enabling them to provide timely feedback and guidance to their trainees. The ePortfolio also facilitates the appraisal process by capturing the continuous professional development (CPD) activities, which is mandated yearly, covering specialty rotations, and ensuring that trainees receive feedback on their performance. With dedicated administrative support, users can navigate the ePortfolio with ease, focusing on their professional development efficiently.

Specialty Training Programmes

Our Specialty Training Programmes are committed to supporting Specialty Associate Specialists (SAS) through bespoke training initiatives and strategic partnerships with external companies. We offer a diverse range of courses tailored to the needs of SAS professionals, including Building Professional Resilience, Managing Stress, Time C Workload, Appraisal, Reflective Practice, and Revalidation for appraisees. Additionally, our Programme covers essential skills such as Dealing with Difficult Colleagues, Being Assertive C Negotiating, Getting the Most out of Job Planning, and Becoming a Mentor. We also provide comprehensive Educational Supervisor Training compliant with NHSE standards. By prioritising the development and well-being of SAS professionals, Our aim is to provide them with the skills and support required to excel in their roles and make meaningful contributions to healthcare delivery.

Portfolio Pathway (CESR)

Our Portfolio Pathway (CESR) offers a tailored teaching and training package designed to cover domains 2, 3, and 4 of the portfolio curriculum as led by the GMC. With a focus on comprehensive development, our program ensures that participants receive well- rounded preparation across key domains. We provide individualised support through one-to-one tutor sessions and conduct annual reviews to track progress effectively, supported by dedicated administrative assistance. Moreover, our pathway is piloted within specialty areas such as Anaesthetics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Emergency Medicine, and Pediatrics, ensuring relevance and applicability to specific professional contexts. This specialised approach allows participants to gain the necessary skills and experience required for successful completion of the CESR pathway, advancing their careers in their chosen specialties.

SAS/LED Conference

The University Hospital Birmingham SAS/LED Conference is an annual event that serves as a gathering point for locally employed doctors from across the region. This conference shines a spotlight on new practices and celebrates the achievements of our locally employed doctors. It provides an opportunity for poster presentations, speaker involvement, and building networks among attendees. Additionally, attendance at the conference offers CPD points, contributing to the professional development of doctors. It's a dynamic platform where knowledge is shared, connections are made, and the contributions of locally employed doctors are celebrated.
